Why doesn't Greece sell some of its territory to pay off its debt?

-Its seems the European tax payer is taking the hit on Greece's irresponsible borrowing, Why don;t they pay their debs by selling some of their territory? I'm sure Turkey would be interested in the islands near its coast, or its neighbors like Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia or Albania are interested in expanding their territories.It doesn't need to, it should just dump the Euro, and then it could trade its way out of its problems.





The Euro is too high for the Greek Economy, if they came out any Greek Drachma would be valued about half what the Euro is, and they would be able to sell their goods abroad and people would flock there for cheap Holidays, unemployment would go down and Tax receipts would go up, enabling them to pay their debts.
They have started to sell them (the islands on its east side) to the turks and Billionaires. All other land (Like land that could be sold to Albania, FYROM, or Bulgaria) would destroy the ultra-nationalist Greek ego. The nations bordering Greece have all had land taken from them by Greece. Imagine you take your neighbors power tools when they are on vacation. They can prove that those tools are theirs; however the courts rule in your favor. So now you have them. A few years later you go bankrupt. If you sell those power tools, you can get out of this situation. But the only person who will buy them is the man you stole them from. And since they are historically his, he will want them for near free.
They are not going to give up parts of its land to neighboring countries. How would you like it if one day you are living in Greece and now you are an expat living in Bulgaria or Turkey without even moving from your home and subject to their laws instead of your country's laws.



They are selling state owned land to private corporations for development use.
That is a good idea. It works in Hong Kong.



Government is selling lands to developers and developers can build houses for sales to gain profit. In fact, the price of housing in Hong kong is the highest in Asia: much expensive than Tokyo.



EU can buy lands from Greece and build a test site for a smarter sustainable city than may benefit the whole human kind.
It doesn't matter what Greece or Ireland or Portugal or Spain or Italy do....in twenty years time Europe will be a German / Franco Empire anyway.... Germany couldn't conquer Europe by war but it will own / conquer euroe with MONEY.......
Greece would never have to do that. The rest of the EU community loves Greece and we'd all happily chip in anytime to help our friend out in her time of need.
I'm pretty sure I saw on the news that they are already doing that, and selling off some of the islands/resort areas along the beach.
It should sell all the plots of land that the foreign-owned banks are built on and it should sell them to North Korea.
Greeks would never allow it. If their government were to do so, I guarantee it would result in civil war.
The debt actually exceeds the value of the entire country
If you were in debt, would you sell your kids? Why should Greece sell the territory?
