Not all of it but certainly some of it.
You will find an appreciation of America in the youth of China who are currently in a frenzy about Apple products, to the extent that there was an entire Apple Store discovered in Kunming that was a fake and unknown to the parent company.I don't think us "pathetic Brits" like all Americans, the same as all the rest of the world supposedly hatee all of the American people. Of course there is going to be some resentment towards the World's Super Power, it was probably the same during the Roman times and at any time of an empire of any kind. These Super Powers try to dominate the whole world and can't seem to concentrate on their own country without inflicting their beliefs etc on others. Maybe the hatred or dislike is towards their foreign policy, because I like most Americans and the country, but don't like their ideas of going into wars guns a blazing and killing innocent people, that I struggle with. Then I struggle with my country doing the same and following the USA on many a foolish enterprise!
But to make sweeping statements about the whole world is naive, because most people don't hate everyone. You get good and bad everywhere, go figure!
First off Britain isn't pathetic. Second they neither like us nor dislike us more than anybody else. Third is a question for you, do you differentiate between the American people and their government? I only ask because they've been running at around a 30% approval rating for over a decade meaning that the government is clearly not representing the wants and needs of the American people.
And lastly I believe a lot of countries don't like us because of our massive arsenal of Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical weapons. It's hard to appreciate the finer points of a person capable of destroying everybody else on a whim.
British people: don't fall for this Paki's attempt at being an agent provacateur on Y!A! UK/Ireland. What precisely is pathetic about Americans or British? Our collective culture impacted the entire world. We make a helluva team, and this annoys towelheads, as is well known.

We have a business culture that tends to invade these countries when it can make a buck. Our military seems to be at the beckon call of the business culture. So you can't blame most of the countries. As for the Brits, they are a small island that was once able to rule the world. They are like the Cleveland Browns, you have to give them some credit for past accomplishments. I also admired their students for rioting. Plus, they gave us Monty Python. It is the true the Brits are hurting now, but then so is the rest of the world.

If it hadn't been for the "pathetic", extremely brave Brits holding off the Nazis in western europe and the Atlantic in the early years of WW2 we would all be speaking german now and would probably be in slave labor camps.
