Is Insidious based on true events?

-Because I'm pretty sure the WHOLE movie, I kept telling my friends, and myself that I've seen this before! Like I know where these people are getting these ideas. I know because I just feel some weird type of connection. Especially when he went to the the Astral realm in the lower negative parts of it, and he was looking at those people, or demons or what ever it was. And they were just sitting there, frozen in time, but it was some sort of dementia. Some sort of darkness and deep sadness, but unaware of it. Like Idk...I cant explain it. Like that scene where the little boy/man was playing with the turntable..Like I knew I saw that before. I knew that! IDK! I just feel like I was watching some sort of memory of mine. Idk...I connected with the movie more then others I guess.it's just a movie and it's not based off of anything true.
I just watched the DVD tonight and saw nothing in the credits about it being base on a true story. It was pretty scary, but seemed very far-fetched to me.
